Nearly 20 years ago, China was rocked by what are still the biggest demonstrations since the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown.

Falun Gong was a spiritual movement that was hugely popular in China before being crushed. But what are its origins, how did it become so widespread and why did the government become so concerned?
