STANFORD APARC

This was completely unexpected but all the more thrilling to win. 

I got an email a couple of months ago with the all-caps subject line: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: YOU HAVE WON… and so of course immediately deleted it. But a few moments later thought, didn’t I see the word “Stanford” somewhere in there? So I fished it out of the trash and found that I’d won a lifetime achievement award from Stanford’s APARC center for Asian studies and research. It was genuinely a shock and a real thrill.
