My second piece in the New Yorker this year is on pollution in Chinese cities. I spent some time in Handan, which is actually a fascinating little city, home to a lot of history and extremely nice people. Unfortunately it’s also one of the most polluted cities in China, with air quality that’s is about fifteen times worse than, say, New York City’s. It’s also got a badly polluted river and, yes, I went swimming in it (nude, no less). You can read the article
