BREAKING EGGS ON ROCKS
Suddenly articles are appearing again…this time in The New York Review of Books.
This is a review essay of an absolutely stunning book by Duke Divinity School’s Lian Xi, who writes a biography of the great Mao-era Christian dissident Lin Zhao.
The painting by Hu Jie was a great addition to the piece–thanks to Mr. Hu for allowing the Review to use it! (To find out more about Hu Jie, see my 2015 interview with him here.)
Also reviewed in this essay is UC San Diego’s Margaret Roberts, whose book on how censorship works in China is clear and wonderfully argued.
The article is paywalled but will appear free next month thanks to ChinaFile’s archive of NYRB articles.
