BEST IN-DEPTH WRITING ON RELIGION

Thanks so much to the American Academy of Religion for honoring me with their prize for best in-depth newswriting on religion.

You can read the announcement here. The highlight for me was the jury’s description of my work as  a “deep-dive series of articles with an excellent mix of journalism and public scholarship.”

The award means I’ll be speaking at the AAR’s annual meeting in November in San Diego. This is a meeting I’ve always wanted to attend–it’s a great confab of all the top scholars in religion. I’m really honored they saw fit to award my journalistic work, mainly for the New York Times and New York Review of Books.
